At the very beginning of a healthy life, midwives accompany the families and women. According to the description of the World Health Organization, a midwife is someone who is trained to provide care and guidance during pregnancy, birth and after birth; to assist natural and normal births under their responsibility, to care for the newborn and provide family plan consultancy.
The Midwifery Department is a part of the Health Sciences Faculty at our university and the students who complete this program are entitled to the title ‘Midwife’ upon graduation. Our department aims to educate midwives who are equipped with the necessary occupational knowledge and skills, able to adapt to the rapid scientific developments, respectful to the values of the families and the society, who contribute to the development of their scientific field and think critically with excellent problem-solving skills. It is our mission to train midwives who embrace the importance of continuing education, base their practice on scientific proof and are innovative educators, practitioners and leaders within their field.
Our graduates may work at all the primary health care and public health facilities, family health centres, inpatient treatment institutions which has an obstetrics and gynaecology department, polyclinics and services that provide antenatal monitoring, new-born services, family planning and mother-child health centres, infertility clinics, and prenatal education classes as well as being self-employed.
Their training allows sufficiently prepares them to work in administrative roles as managers, clinical roles as responsible midwives or clinical midwives, and academic roles as teachers and educators. Moreover, they may open in private healthcare cabins and nursing homes to pursue self-employment.
The ones who are both willing and qualified to pursue post-graduate education may continue by following a Master’s program to become an academic at the universities.
