What is pharmacy?

Pharmacy is a clinical health science that relates medical science with biology and chemistry and is competent in drug formulation, production, evaluation of efficacy, side effects, and toxic effects, drug-drug interactions, drug-nutrient interactions, safe and effective use of drugs with the discovery of natural and synthetic drug active substances.

It is an education program that trains "Pharmacist" at the undergraduate level with the competencies and qualifications to work in the fields of Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, and Industrial Pharmacy. The degree earned is 'Pharmacist'.

What is 9 stars in pharmacy?

The competencies and skills a pharmacist should possess are symbolized by stars by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

The 9 stars in pharmacy are reported as providing health care, making the right decision, communicating effectively, being a leader, having managerial qualities, aiming for lifelong learning, being instructive, entrepreneur, and enquiring.

Where can graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy work?

The graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy can work as Pharmaceutical Industry Pharmacists, Community Pharmacy Pharmacists, Hospital Pharmacists, Hospital Pharmacy Pharmacists, Academic Pharmacists, or Pharmaceutical Warehouse Pharmacists. They can work as a pharmacist in public institutions such as the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK) and Social Security Institution (SSI, SGK in Turkish). In addition, graduated pharmacists can take the examination for specialty in Pharmacy, receive Pharmacy Specialization Training in Clinical Pharmacy and Phytopharmacy, and work as specialists in hospitals.

What is the Language of Education at the Faculty of Pharmacy?

The language of instruction at the Faculty of Pharmacy is Turkish and English.

What is the duration of the Pharmacy Education Period?

Pharmacy education is 5 (five) years and consists of theoretical and practical courses as well as internship practice.

What are the Pharmacy Education Program Attendance Conditions?

What are the conditions and rules for graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy?

In order to graduate, students must be successful in all courses in the curriculum, complete a minimum of 300 ECTS, and have a GPA of 2.00/4.00. According to the internship directive, students must be successful in 120 (one hundred and twenty) working days of compulsory internship.

Are there any elective courses in the program?

In addition to the compulsory courses our students are required to take, there are elective and general elective courses to increase their professional development.

What are the field courses in the program?

Field elective courses are offered to our students in Year 4 (Semester 7) to increase their professional knowledge and development during their education and to make them more rational in choosing their field of profession.

What is the duration of the internship in the program?

There is a compulsory internship of 120 working days in the Faculty of Pharmacy education plan. Information about the internship plan of our faculty is as follows:

Internship I – 20 working days (at the end of Year 2 in summer period)

Internship II – 25 working days (at the end of Year 3 in summer period)

Internship III – 30 working days (at the end of Year 4 in summer period)

Internship IV – 45 working days (in the spring semester of Year 5)

Where can students do their internships?

Students can do their internship practices in community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical production facilities, medical equipment production facilities, cosmetics manufacturing, and/or R&D centers related to these production areas.

Fenerbahçe University Faculty of Pharmacy students will do their Practice Pharmacy internship in the Practice Pharmacy of our Faculty.

Does Fenerbahçe University Faculty of Pharmacy place its students in internships?

Our students are responsible for finding their internship placements themselves. Our university has a protocol with the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate. Fenerbahçe University Faculty of Pharmacy is defined in the Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists Internship Program. In addition, protocols with the Pharmaceutical Industry are also made by the University Internship Unit.

As a pharmacy student, can I do my internship in any community pharmacy?

Pharmacy internships are carried out in pharmacies that have a pharmacist with at least five years of professional experience. In addition, the pharmacy must not have a first-degree family relationship with the pharmacy managing director.

How is the transition to higher degree programs?

Graduates receive the title of "Dr. Pharmacist" by studying for a doctorate in postgraduate doctoral programs in institutes. In addition, if they wish, they can apply to master's non-thesis/thesis programs in the relevant field in the institutes. They can take the examination for specialty in Pharmacy, which is called EUS, conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM in Turkish) receive education in the fields of Clinical Pharmacy and Phytopharmacy, and receive the title of Pharmacy Specialization.

What is a clinical pharmacist?

Clinical pharmacists are healthcare professionals who work together with other healthcare professionals to supervise and guide patients for the most effective and beneficial application of drug therapy and provide consultancy on the use, side effects, interactions, and dosages of drugs. They can take an active role in organizing the most appropriate drug treatment for patients in outpatient clinics and inpatient wards. This title is obtained after Clinical Pharmacy Specialization training.

The intra-institutional transfer procedures are carried out within the framework of the provisions of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions". Is it possible for the students to go to a university abroad through Erasmus?
