Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yıldırım ÜÇTUĞ

Resume

He was born in Istanbul in 1956. After graduating from Saint Joseph French High School for Boys, he received his bachelor's degree from the Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Electrical Engineering in 1979. He furthered his academic journey by completing both his master's and doctoral degrees in the same field at METU.

He became an associate professor in 1988 and a full professor in 1994. Between 1985 and 1989, he served as Vice Chair of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at METU. From 1989 to 1992, he was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at METU. From 1992 to 1997, he served as the Advisor to the Rector of METU, and from 1997 to 2003, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at METU. Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Üçtuğ is the founder of the Council of Engineering Deans, where he served as General Secretary between 2000 and 2003. During his tenure, the Engineering Accreditation Association (MÜDEK) was founded.

From 2007 to 2010, Prof. Dr. Üçtuğ served as Vice Rector at Bahçeşehir University, and from 2011 to 2015, he was the founding Rector of Altınbaş University. Between 2015 and 2023, he served as the Rector of Atılım University.

He has authored nine articles in international journals and books, and presented 25 papers at national and international conferences. Additionally, he has supervised 16 master's theses and two doctoral dissertations. His commitment to academic excellence is further evidenced by his role as the organizer of nine international conferences. At the same time, Prof. Dr. Üçtuğ is the author of two detective novels.

He is married and has two sons.
